According to this article, there are now 722,686 foreigners living in Korea — a whopping 35 percent jump over this time last year. Close to 80 percent are of other Asian nationalities. By contrast, and if my math is right, about 24,600 (3.4%) are Americans.

South Korea is a country of 50 million people. That means Americans make up 0.42 percent of the population of Korea as a whole. Most live in Seoul with far fewer living in my city of Busan.

I’m beginning to understand why people stare at me.
